Santiago de la Ribera was founded in 1888 by brother Jose Barnuevo, Knight
of the Military Order of Santiago who, from his lands in Torre Mínguez, designed
the urbanization of a part of the property in an amazingly modern way at the time.
This small town belongs to the city of San Javier located in the region of Murcia, Spain.
Situated on the edges of Mar Menor, it is made of several neighbourhoods, among which
Ciudad del Aire (the city of air), San Blas, Los Pozuelos and El Barrio de los Pescadores
(the fishermen’s quarter). In the North of Santiago de Ribera, you’ll find Lo Pagán,
belonging to the town of San Pedro del Pinatar; to the East Mar Menor; to the West San
Javier and in the South Los Narejos (a town belonging to los Alcàzares).
The Spanish Air Force Academy is located in San Javier.
Mar Menor bay and its beaches with quiet and shallow waters are the main attraction
of Santiago de Ribera. This former fishermen's village and its four kilometers of fine
sand beaches lined with palm trees is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy the sun,
the sea and water sports almost all year round.
You will also find many restaurants, bars and ice-cream parlours; playgrounds for children; lifeguard surveillance all along the beach. A farmers’ market takes place on every Wednesday morning less than 500 meters away from the apartment.
